Product Overview:
While the chances are pretty good that you have heard about Fellowes paper shredders, did you know that Fellowes also makes a wide range of comb, wire and coil binding machines? The Fellowes Star 150 is a prime example of a popular and nice manual comb binding machine. So is this particular machine the right choice for your business or organization?
The Star 150 is a manual comb binding machine. That means that the punching is done by manually pulling on a handle. While this may seem complicated, the Fellowes Star 150 makes it very easy. It uses a U shaped handle. This U design makes it easy to punch paper from several different angles and makes it perfect for left-handed or right-handed people.
The punch is remarkably easy to operate and can vertically punch up to 10 sheets of 20# bond paper at a time. While the capacity does decrease with thicker paper, it can also be used with clear covers and card stock. While it will take a few passes of the punch, this machine can ultimately be used to bind a book up to 150 pages thick (20# bond paper) using a 3/4" diameter binding comb. It punches a total of 19 holes along the 11-inch side of a sheet of paper.
Because the Fellowes Star 150 uses a vertical punch, paper is naturally kept lined up thanks to gravity. This keeps alignment and holes in order, making it far easier later on in the binding process to insert the 19-ring plastic binding combs. Most comb binding machines use horizontal punches. It also includes a separate comb opener lever that is used to open and close combs, finalizing the binding process.
Another nice thing about binding a Fellowes binding machine is the impressive 2-year warranty. Most binding machines only offer a one-year warranty.
One thing many customers that purchase this machine comment on is how nice it is to simply fold it up and store it away. The handle, vertical punch support and everything fold down into a flat design. This makes it easy to keep it out of the way or simply put it in a cupboard until it is later needed.
While you may think a Fellowes machine is just a cheap piece of plastic, most customers comment on how well built the Fellowes Star 150 is. Many say that it features very nice construction. One thing that should be noted about this machine is that it looks great. It doesn't have the industrial look found in many other machines. It touts sleek curves and a classy silver-gray and white build.
As paper is punched, particles are stored in a convenient compartment under the machine that can later be emptied. A separate compartment that lies parallel to the paper waste tray can be used to hold spare combs. That same comb tray also includes a diameter selection tool. Simply put, this is a great value for what you get. This machine is designed for light-volume home or small business use. Buy yours today!
