How To Use An L-bar Shrink Wrap Machine

What is an L-bar shrink wrapper?

An L-bar shrink wrap machine uses an L or square-shaped sealer to cut shrink wrap film around a product. L-bar sealers are the fastest way to shrink wrap a product. L-bar shrink wrap sealers are available in all shapes and sizes, but all work in a similar way.At Office Zone we have stand-along L-bar sealers, stand-along heat shrink tunnels and combination shrink wrap systems.

L-Bar sealers are what many businesses and companies use to mass shrink wrap DVDs, CDs, software boxes, food packages and much more. Packaging can take as little as a few seconds with higher-end industrial shrink wrap machines.

If you are packaging more than two dozen products a day, it is recommended to use an L-bar sealer. L-bar shrink wrap brands include AIE, Traco, Rochman, MiniPack, Compack and many more.

Most shrink wrap machines can use both PVC and Polyolefin shrink films.

Differences between L-bar shrink wrappers.

There are some big differences between all the L-bar shrink wrap machines available in the market today. One of the biggest differences is between the manual and automatic models. Some higher end shrink wrap machines have a motor that brings the arm down and back up, where others require manual effort to bring the arm down. Some sealers even have a magnetic lock that holds the arm in place until the shrink wrap process is completed.

Another difference between L-bar sealers is the shrink tunnel. Some L-bar sealers do not include any heat source to shrink the film. This requires the user to either purchase a separate shrink tunnel or use a heat gun to finish the packaging process.

Heat tunnels dramatically increase the speed at which shrink wrapping can be done. It literally shaves minutes off the process vs. a heat shrink gun.

Some shrink wrap machines, such as those made by Minipack, have an integrated heat shrink tunnel. This is a favorite among our customers. This is because the sealing bar has a hood on it, so when the arm is brought down to cut the film, hot air is blown around the product just a few seconds later. The entire packaging process is done in one step.
