If you're in the market for a paper cutter, you may want to consider using a guillotine. These cutters are very similar to the old-school wood base cutters you may have used as a kid, however, they have been seriously updated with both quality and safety features. One guillotine that is very popular right now is the MBM Kutrimmer 1046 by Ideal.
The MBM Kutrimmer line of paper cutters, by Ideal Germany, are extremely popular for several reasons. To begin with, they feature durable metal construction. Everything from the base to the cutting arm is made out of metal. Their high-end Solingen steel blades are also considered a desirable attribute. Solingen steel, made in Germany, is known for holding a blade for a long time and producing crisp clean cuts. Many kitchen knives are made from Solingen steel, making Solingen integration into the Kutrimmer natural.
These cutters are engineered and built in Germany. The only other guillotine manufacturer that holds a candle to Triumph are those made by Dahle. It isn't uncommon for one of these cutters to last for years without needing the blade re-sharpened.
The MBM Kutrimmer 1046 is an 18" guillotine, meaning it can cut a sheet of paper up to 18" long. The base itself measures in at 20" x 14". It features a gridded pattern on the base of the cutter that makes photo alignment, paper alignment and other document alignment easy. This helps maintain crisp, straight and clean edges.
Side guides are set in both inches and metric. This makes the Kutrimmer 1046 perfect for use in the US or in Canada. The 1046 also includes a paper guide that adjuest left to right as well as an adjustable back gauge. The base of the cutter sits on non-skid rubber feet, keeping the cutter in place during the cutting process.
Do you remember the old wood-base cutters and their horrible habit of cutting paper completely crooked? This problem has been fixed with the 1046. Not only is the Soligen steel blade razor sharp, but it also features a precision automatic clamp (w/ Easy Lift release) that keeps paper in place as the blade cuts the paper. This is especially nice considering the fact that this cutter has a 30 sheet capacity with 20lb bond paper.
Unlike older stack cutters from a few decades ago, the Kutrimmer 1046 is built with safety in mind. It features a transparent Lexan safety guard that keeps the blade covered during the cutting process. The safety guard includes an integrated cutting line for added accuracy.
This cutter is very popular with schools, churches, businesses, photographers and much more. It is a great "multi-purpose" cutter as it can be used to cut and trim photos, paper, card stock, laminated material and more.
Replacement cutting blades are readily available and parts are available upon request. We sell several of these cutters every year and they have an excellent record with our customers.
