Were you by any chance a fan of the Martin Yale 959 and can't seem to find a replacement? About a year ago the 959 was replaced by the Martin Yale Mark VII Pro Series paper folding machine. Newer doesn't always mean better, especially considering the popularity and raving reviews of the 959. So how does the Mark VII Pro hold up? Find out in this review.
Martin Yale manufactures a wide range of office products. This includes paper cutters, Intimus paper shredders, bursters, paper hole punches and more. While they do make a lot of office equipment, they are probably best known for their paper folding machines. Popular models include the 1611, 1501x, 1217a and others. Their machines feature no-nonsense designs. They are made to fold paper and that's what they do.
The Mark VII Pro is the highest-end friction feed folding machine offered by Martin Yale. It is ideal for use in factories, print shops, copy centers and more. It features a durable metal design that could probably take a shotgun blast and still work, although I don't recommend it. The fold plates, exit tray, chassis and much more are literally made from metal.
This machine is a manually set up and manually adjusted machine. Don't let that scare you off. It is still easy to set up. Folds are clearly marked and adjusting the folding plates isn't difficult. The folding plates can be set up and adjusted to accommodate letter folds, z-folds, double parallel folds, half folds, church folds and more. As is the case with most manually adjusted machines, custom folds are a snap.
What impresses me most about this machine is the incredibly fast motor. It operates at a speed of 35,000 sheets of paper per hour. That's 9 folds a second. Most machines can't even fold paper in a fraction that time. For this reason, the Mark VII is a great commercial / industrial folding machine.
My least favorite feature is the 350 sheet feed tray, especially considering its amazingly fast folding speed. In my opinion, a commercial paper folding machine should hold at least 450+ sheets of paper. This really is more of a minor annoyance than anything else. The Martin Yale Mark VII Pro is still a solid folding machine and will still fold your projects in no time at all.
This paper folding machine can handle paper from 16# bond up to 80# index and handles paper ranging from 3 1/2" x 4 1/4" up to an impressively large 14" x 20". This makes the Mark VII great for folding documents as small as letters or items as large as brochures, signs, menus and more.
