Question
Will the CoilMac-ER Binding Machine punch through 6 sheets that have been laminated?
Kathy P.
Answer
The Coilmac-ER binding machine is capable of punching 17 pages of 20 pound bond paper at a time. This is the factory rating determined by Akiles, the manufacturer. We recommend backing that number off by at least three
pages, just to make the effort a little easier for you when pulling down the punching arm.
When you laminate a piece of paper, it instantly becomes significantly thicker. If you laminated your six sheets of paper with a relatively thin lamination film (1.5 mil thickness for example), you should be just fine. If you laminated your papers with anything thicker such as 3 mil, you may experience some punching problems.
You will have to expend more punching force to get the job done, and you would increase the wear and tear on your machine. It’s perfectly OK to punch laminated paper with a binding machine, you just need to test the punching capabilities of your specific model one sheet at a time. Also, you can still bind the sheets even if they have been laminated.
