Intelli-Fold DE-172AF Paper Folding Machine Review

Posted by: James on December 28th, 2012

DE-172AF Paper Folding MachineIf your business folds hundreds to thousands of sheets of paper per day, you may want to consider buying a paper folding machine. These machines can be used to fold invoices, letters, brochures, pamphlets and much more. One machine that our customers enjoy using is the Intelli-Fold DE-172AF paper folder by Intelli-Zone (found here). I have had the opportunity to use this machine on several occasions and this is my review.

The Intelli-Fold is an upgraded version of the Intelli-Fold DE-202AF (including the Dynafold DE-202AF). While the DE-202AF is a solid machine, the DE-172AF has a few upgraded features. This includes sensors that let you know when the folding plates aren’t properly seated, when the cover isn’t closed and when the paper is out. It also includes a powered exit conveyor with a set of stacking wheels.

The added sensors are a nice addition because one of the most common culprits for a paper folding machine jam is improperly seated folding plates. Any gap or incorrect clearance in the plates can results in a fairly serious paper jam.

The inclusion of a powered exit conveyor helps bring order to the paper folding process. Many folding machines have a basic catch tray. While this works, it can lead to the paper becoming disorganized and jumbled. The conveyor, along with the stacking wheels, help slow the paper down as it leaves the machine and keeps it organized and stacked. This is excellent for organizational purposes and helps keep invoices, bills and other documents in order.

The DE-172AF utilizes a high-speed motor that folds paper at a speed of up to 6,000 sheets per hour. While it is not recommended to run this machine at full speed for hours on end, it is fast. It also features a variable speed motor. This allows it to more easily handle various paper thicknesses and adds an extra degree of control to the operator. The DE-172AF can be used with paper ranging in thickness from 16# bond up to 50# index.

The feed tray on this machine holds up to 500 sheets of standard 20# bond paper. What I appreciate is that you don’t have to pre-fan the paper. Simply press down on the spring loaded tray (paper squared up) and the machine will automatically begin pulling one sheet at a time from the top of the stack. The feed system works very well. A total of three rollers help ensure the paper is pulled in straight for more accurate folds.

I have personally set up this machine and would say it takes about 2-3 minutes to properly set up. Once set, no further adjustments are needed unless a different paper size is used. The DE-172AF can use paper ranging in size from 3.5″ x 5″ up to 11″ x 17″. All you need to do is find the sheet size you are folding on the two folding plates, determine the type of fold you need to create and adjust the folding plates accordingly. The process is very simple. If the paper seems to be slightly off skew, I recommend either re-aligning the paper guides or making fine-tuned adjustments to the folding plates.

Overall I highly recommend this machine. It is a great fit for small businesses, medium-size businesses, church, school or copy shop. It is easy to use, our customers tell us it is very reliable and it is priced right. Please feel free to give us a call at 1-800-543-5454 with any questions you may have about the Intelli-Fold DE-172AF. You can find our entire selection of paper folding machines here.

The Advantages of Using Plastic Comb Binding Machines

The Intelli-Bind IB700 Comb Binding Machine by Intelli-Zone

The Intelli-Bind IB700 Comb Binding Machine by Intelli-Zone

What ever happened to comb binding machines? You know, those strange looking gadgets that sit alone in a dark corner in the copy room. It seemed only just a few years ago that comb binding was the most popular method to professionally binding office documents. Wire binding machines and coil binding machines have been around for a while too, but they have lured away former loyal comb binding enthusiasts in recent times.

There still remains, however, a strong customer base for comb binding machines. For example, we have several schoolteachers and others in the education market that love the versatility and relative low-cost of comb binding machines and materials. A plastic comb binding spine is easy to remove from a punched document. You would do this if you needed to remove or add a page or two to an already bound document.

If your child brings home a stack of artwork or similar project from school, chances are it’s been bound with a plastic comb binding machine. Several of our customers also prefer using a comb binding machine over other binding methods simply because of the ease of use, low costs for supplies, and you can actually bind up to several hundred sheets at a time.

The Intelli-Bind IB700 Comb Binding Machine from Intelli-Zone is a solid, all-around model for most binding needs. This manually operated comb binding unit is not difficult to use or expensive. We have actually extensively tested this model in the offices of Office Zone. Its specially designed punching handle is leveraged in a way that you only need to exert minimal effort to punch a stack of paper.

The Intelli-Bind IB700 actually makes punching a stack of 20 sheets of paper feel like you’re only punching through five. Not only is the IB700 simple to operate, it is also equipped with high-end features, typically not found in a competing model in this price range. Some of the unique features include disengaging (selectable) punch pins, punch and comb opening levers that work independently of each other, adjustable margin depth, waste catch tray and more.

The IB700 is designed to last for several years of typical office needs use. It’s an attractive machine that looks good in any office or copy room. The IB700 and is the ideal solution for most medium-volume document binding needs. Be sure to contact Office Zone today to learn more about the comb binding machines that we recommend, including the impressive IB700 from Intelli-Zone.

Intelli-Fold IF300 Paper Folding Machine Review

Posted by: James on September 8th, 2011

Intelli-Fold IF300 Paper Folding MachineA common mistake that is made when people are considering what office equipment to buy is that of over purchasing. They buy equipment that can do all sorts of cool things, but isn’t really practical for what they require. Take paper folding machines for example. Some people will buy a paper folder than can fold 30,000 sheets per minute, which is awesome! But what if those same companies don’t even send out 30,000 sheets in a year? They’ve wasted a lot of money something they didn’t need. That’s what makes the Intelli-Fold IF300 paper folder such a good choice for some companies.

The Intelli-Fold IF300 paper folder is a low volume paper folder that folds a lot of paper, and folds it very well. While it doesn’t fold 30,000 sheets an hour, it does fold 3,600 sheets of paper per minute. This makes it very practical for small business, community banks, local insurance companies, schools, churches, or other organizations that need a good, quality paper folder that meets their needs.

The Intelli-Fold IF300 Paper Folder is a friction style folder that rapidly feeds the paper through using a friction roller and conveyor system. It is an automatic paper folder than will self-feed the paper and fold it when the paper is placed in the hopper. The paper hopper can hold 100 sheets at a time. The Intelli-Fold IF300 Paper Folder can fold sheets into a Half Fold, Z Fold, Letter Fold, or Double Parallel Fold. It accommodates standard paper sizes like, 8 ½ x 11. After all the paper has been fed through the machine, the Intelli-Fold IF300 will automatically shut off after 10 seconds, going into standby mode.

This is a video demo of the IF300 in operation:

The Intelli-Fold IF300 Paper Folder is produced by Intelli-Zone. According to their website, Intelli-Zone is a manufacturer of high quality office equipment. Their paper folders and other office machines are built to be rugged, reliable, and should provide many years of use. This commitment to quality, combined with their competitive prices, make their paper folders a sound purchase choice.

Some of the features built into the design of the Intelli-Fold IF300 Paper Folder show that that company had the consumer in mind. This is foremost evident in how quiet the Intelli-Fold IF300 Paper Folder operates. Most paper folders are quite noisy as they feed, fold and stack the paper.  The Intelli-Fold IF300 operates at a lower noise level of only 65 decibels. This is so quiet that you’ll still be able to hear your co-workers carrying on a conversation about their most recent Facebook post over the sound of the paper folder while it’s operating.  It is also easy to set up and it has the option to set custom style folds.

The only downside of the Intelli-Fold IF300 is the shortcoming that afflicts all friction-style paper folders. It shouldn’t be used to fold glossy paper. If you’re in a business that uses a lot of slick, shiny paper then you’d be better off with a suction-operated paper folder.

You can get the best price on an Intelli-Fold IF300 Paper Folder, along with other office equipment from the Intelli-Zone line, at Office Zone. You can find Office Zone’s entire selection of paper folding machines here.

Intelli-Lam IL300 Pouch Laminating Machine Review

Posted by: James on July 26th, 2011

Intelli-Lam IL300 Pouch Laminating MachineIf you laminate photos, business cards, signs and other material, you’re going to need a reliable and durable laminating machine. One key quality you will want in your laminator is a well-built metal design. Few laminators in the $100 offer this feature. One laminator that provides excellent build quality along with a great price is the Intelli-Lam IL300 pouch laminating machine. This is my review.

To begin with, I have personally used a variety of different Intelli-Lam pouch laminators, which includes the IL300. Few laminators, including Akiles, Banner American, Fellowes an GBC come close to offering the amount of features you get with Intelli-Lam for the price. Intelli-Zone, the manufacturer of Intelli-Lam, also makes Intelli-Bind, Intelli-Fold and Intelli-Shred office machines.

Upon first glance, the IL300 looks like a solid piece of equipment. Looks aren’t everything though, so I decided to pick it up and get a feel for the machine. The IL300 has some heft to it. This is due in part to the fact that a good portion of the materials used in the IL300’s construction are metal. Even the housing is metal. It reminded me a lot of the Akiles ProLam series of laminators.

Another important feature you want in a good office laminator is multiple rollers. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Intelli-Lam IL300 has 4 rollers. These rollers help evenly distribute pressure and heat for excellent results. Have you ever had to re-feed a pouch through a laminator because you didn’t get good results the first time? This is not the case with the IL300. Results look great the first time.

Using the laminator is easy. Simply plug it in and turn it on. It about 10 minutes or so the laminator is completely warmed up and ready to go. A green indicator light will let you know when it is ready to be used.

An adjustable temperature dial makes it easy for even the biggest laminating enthusiast to get great results. Unlike most laminators in the $100 range (the IL300 at the time of this article is $102), the IL300 can be used with film as thick as 10 mils!

In case you’re not familiar with laminating pouches, they come in 3, 5, 7 and 10 mil thicknesses. A mil is a thousandth of an inch (0.001″). The higher the mil thickness, the thicker the pouch. Most $100 laminators cannot handle anything thicker than 5 mils.

Another huge plus on the IL300 is the reverse switch. In the even that you feed a pouch in crooked, or a jam occurs, you can flip the motor into reverse and back the pouch back out. If for any reason the reverse motor cannot release the jam, four screws can easily be removed on the cover to allow easy access to the inner components.

One concern I have heard from customers is that the power light is on all the time. There is no need to be alarmed. When the laminator is plugged in, an LED does light up, but the heat and motor are off. It is essentially in standby mode until you flip the laminator switch to “on.”

The motor in the IL300 is so quiet barely even notice it is on. This is ideal for office laminating situations. A person can easily use this laminator on their desk without annoying fellow employees.

This laminator is affordable enough for home use, yet durable enough for office use. I see no reason why you cannot use this laminator all day long. It is a solid piece of machinery and I had a great experience using it.

Intelli-Fold DE-112AF Automated Paper Folding Machine Review

Posted by: James on June 29th, 2011

Intelli-Fold DE-112AF Paper Folding MachineHow many times have you cut your finger trying to manually fold paper? It is no surprise that manually folding paper is at the top of many people’s “most annoying job” list. It is time consuming, results often appear poor and it is extremely inefficient. If you want to improve your folding operations, improve the professional look of the folding job and save money, you need to take a look at the Intelli-Fold DE-112AF paper folding machine from Intelli-Zone. I have used this machine and this is my own review.

The Intelli-Fold line of paper folding machines have quickly become the most popular line we offer. Machines range from desktop machines, like the Intelli-Fold IF300, up to high-end pharmaceutical folding machines like the Intelli-Fold DF-304VC. One of the biggest selling points of Intelli-Fold machines is the incredible price to value ration. It’s tough to find a machine, with the same features and quality, at the same low price.

The Intelli-Fold DE-112AF is currently one of the top selling Intelli-Fold machines available. It is a higher-quality version of the popular Dynafold DE-112AF as it is made in the original Dynafold factory and features a powered exit conveyor. It is a manual setup machine with electric-powered automated feeding and folding. Initial setup generally takes 1-5 minutes, depending on the operator. I’ll explain.

This particular folding machine utilizes two folding plates. Each of these two plates need to be individually set up and adjusted. A combination of the two plates allows you to create letter folds, zig-zag folds, single folds, half accordion folds, gate folds, double parallel folds and more. Sorry about the long list, but I want to get across just how much it can do. Because the plates are manually adjusted, custom folds are extremely easy to create on this machine.

The Intelli-Fold DE-112AF features a drop-in style feed tray. No pre-fanning of the paper is required. Simply take your jogged stack of paper (up to 500 sheets), and place them in the tray. Once turned on, the DE-112AF will continue peeling 1 sheet off the stack at a time until the entire stack has been folded. A sensor in the feed tray lets the machine know when all the paper has been folded, automatically turning off the machine. This helps prevent premature motor wear.

Regarding the motor, it is fast. It folds paper at speeds of up to 6,000 sheets per hour. It maintains a monthly duty cycle of about 12,000 folds per month.

The Intelli-Fold DE-112AF is designed to be used with paper ranging in sizes from 3.5″ x 5″ (89mm x 127mm) up to to 8.5″ x 14″ (216mm x 356mm). That means it will handle letter size paper, legal size paper and smaller. Paper thickness ranges from 16# up to 24# paper.

The DE-112AF has a powered exit tray, which is nice for keeping paper in alphanumerical order. Few machines in this price range come with the convenience of a powered conveyor. If you don’t need to keep your paper organized, you may want to consider using the Intelli-Fold DE-102AF (found here), which is exactly the same as the DE-112AF, but without a conveyor.

The build quality on the DE-112AF is excellent and far exceeds the quality of comparable paper folding machines. It is designed for daily use and is excellent for use in schools, churches, copy shops and other businesses. I give this machine a solid 5 out of 5.

Intelli-Fold DE-102AF Paper Folder Review

Posted by: James on May 19th, 2011

Intelli-Fold DE-102AF Paper FolderIf you were to ask me what the best value for a paper folding machine would be under $1,000 dollars, I would have to say it would be the Intelli-Fold DE-102AF paper folding machine. I have used this machine many times. Not only is it accurate, it is a great value. I’ll explain more in this review.

As mentioned, I have used the Intelli-Fold DE-102AF many times. It is comparable to the Dynafold DE-102AF, with the Intelli-Fold still being made in the original Dynafold factories. Intelli-Fold currently makes about 10 different machines, all of which have a great reputation.

The DE-102AF is designed to be used with standard 8 1/2″ x 11″ paper, however, it can be used with paper ranging in size from 3 1/2″ x 5″ up to 8 1/2″ x 14″. It can be used with paper ranging in thickness from 16# up to 24# bond. This is about the thickness of your standard copy paper.

This particular machine uses manually-adjusted folding plates. You essentially have an upper plate and a lower plate. Both of these folding plates have fold types clearly marked on them, making them extremely easy to set up. Simply loosen the knob on the folding plates and tighten the knob once everything is properly adjusted.

The Intelli-Fold DE-102AF can easily create a letter fold, an a accordion fold, a single fold and many others. Because the plates are manually adjusted, custom folds are also very easy to set up. This makes the DE-102AF perfect for folding letters, brochures, cards, pamphlets and more.

Having handled this machine myself, I have to say that the build quality is excellent. It has a certain “quality” heft to it and it carries a nice 1-year warranty from the manufacturer (Intelli-Zone). In all it weighs in at 57 pounds shipped.

The feed tray on the DE-102AF can hold up to 500 sheets of paper (20# copy paper). Simply place your paper in the feed tray and let the machine do the rest. Just a bit of advice, this machine uses a friction roller system. Because of this, I don’t recommend using this machine with slick or glossy paper. This is because the slick surface could cause the rollers to slip, resulting in a paper jam.

As far as sub $1,000 folding machines are concerned, this one is pretty fast. The motor runs at a speed of about 6,000 pieces per hour. This means you’ll be done with your folding job in no time. While the motor is fast, I recommend using this machine for low to medium-volume jobs.

In conclusion, I have to say that this is a solid folding machine that is probably more than adequate for most small businesses, copy centers and churches. It keeps up with the job, and having sold these for some time, I can attest to the fact that it should hold up for several years without any problems.

You can find the Intelli-Fold DE-102AF paper folding machine here and our entire selection of Intelli-Fold paper folding machines here. You will be happy with this machine.

New Paper Folding Machine: Intelli-Fold DE-112AF

Posted by: Morgan on May 12th, 2011

Intelli-Fold DE-112AF automatic paper folding machineIntroducing the new Intelli-Fold DE-112AF automatic paper folding machine from Intelli-Zone. This model is the next step up from the Intelli-Fold DE-102AF. The most significant difference between the two models is the addition of an automatic exit conveyor. The conveyor with exit rollers ensure smooth ejection of folded paper. Your folded letters leave the machine in the order they were inserted. This improves paper folding efficiency and saves you time in a big way.

The Intelli-Fold DE-112AF is a great auto-feed paper folding machine intended for letter folding, accordion folding and four other popular fold styles. This machine is highly durable and capable of continuous operation. The folding plates on this machine are easy to adjust, ensuring highly accurate paper folds. The model DE-112AF paper folder is a terrific value and the ideal way for you to improve your organization’s paper folding needs.

Paper Folding Machines With Manual Bypass

Posted by: Morgan on May 9th, 2011

Dahle 10560 Letter FolderQuestion

Does the IntelliFold IF300 paper folder have a manual bypass?

Valerie M.

The Intelli-Fold IF300 Paper Folding Machine does not have a manual bypass folding feature. However, it’s still the best value for an automatic letter folder in its price category. The Dahle 10560 Letter Folder folds up to three sheets of paper at a time, thanks to is manual feed bypass. Overall, the model 10560 does a rather admirable job with multiple-sheet folding. If you need more accuracy and consistency with manual bypass paper folding, we recommend the Model FD 38X Automatic Tabletop Paper Folder. The 38X is a relatively new paper folder model by Formax that includes a patented multi-sheet feeder. The feeder lets you manually insert up to four sheets of stapled paper at a time. We have actually tested this unit at Office Zone. It definitely does the best job of folding multiple sheets when compared to competing models.

Need Maximum Punch Capacity for 2:1 Pitch Wire

Posted by: Morgan on April 19th, 2011

Intelli-Bind IM1000 Electric Multipunch MachineQuestion

Hello –

I’m looking for a solution to a book binding problem we have.  We have a bottleneck in our production at the binding machine.  Currently, our 2:1 binding machine only has the capacity to punch 20 pages at a time.

We make about 50 wire-bound books a day, so it’s not a lot, but the time spent punching the holes is too much.  Can you help me understand what our options are for maximum punch capacity?  Price wise, we’d like to stay under $750.

Thank you,

Megan D.

We can help speed up your production volume by about five sheets per punch. The Intelli-Bind IM1000 Electric Multipunch Machine will punch through 25 sheets of 20 lb. bond paper at a time. This paper punch from Intelli-Zone was designed for high-volume document binding punching. It is offered with your choice of punching dies including 2:1 wire, 3:1 wire, 19-ring comb and 3:1 wire with a thumb cut for calendars.

The included foot pedal makes it possible to hold paper with both hands while punching. This unique feature alone helps speed up binding production in a significant way. The Intelli-Bind IM1000 does not cost under $750, but it’s definitely in the neighborhood of your budget. It is the ideal punching machine for long-run binding jobs and is typically used by our customers as an accessory to other document binding machines.

Advice on Paper Trimmer Models for Booklets

Posted by: Morgan on March 25th, 2011

Intelli-Cut 550MS Electric Stack Paper CutterQuestion

I am researching paper cutters/trimmers. I am hoping you can give me some advice on product selection? I have two different tasks, maybe one cutter/trimmer can do both? We have a medium-volume color laser printer that can do saddle-stitched booklets. We would like a machine that could trim the 1/4″ margins off three sides after they were printed and bound. Also, we sometimes would like to trim flyers, etc. into 1/2 page (8-1/2′ x 5-1/2″), 1/3 page, 1/4 page etc in small quantities up to about 3,000 sheets or so. We don’t need 3,000 sheets in one cut, just want to do them faster & easier than our manual, guillotine-style cutter.

John F.

We highly recommend the Intelli-Cut 550MS Electric Stack Paper Cutter. This cutter was specifically designed to tackle large cutting jobs such as yours. The model 550MS handles thick stacks of paper with ease, yet will execute accurate trimming strokes as well. It can cut through sizeable quantities of standard paper, card stock and chipboard. This paper cutter is made from durable metal components and includes a long-lasting cutting blade that stays sharp for a long time.
