Paper Burster Guide

What are paper bursters?

A Paper burster is a device that separates forms, gift certificates and coupons that are perforated. Form bursters will also remove the edges from tractor-fed computers forms and checks.

What are the two different types of bursters?

Continuous forms bursters will detach computer forms, checks, and other sheets of paper that are attached along a perforated edge.

Cut sheet burstersseparate sheets of paper into smaller sections along perforated edges. Cut sheet bursters differ from continuous bursters because the stack of forms are not connected like tractor paper.

How much paper will you be bursting?

Paper bursters come in various sizes in order to accommodate either small jobs or higher volume loads.

Tabletop bursters are the smallest paper burster model. These bursters are designed for low-volume bursting and fit on a tabletop. Tabletop bursters can burst approximately 40-160 feet of paper per minute.

Mid-size bursters are designed for intermediate-sized bursting jobs. These paper bursters are slightly larger than tabletop models and can average about 175 feet of paper per minute.

High-volume/heavy-duty bursters are built for maximum-output forms bursting. A heavy-duty burster will break apart approximately 250-300 feet of paper per minute. They are ideal for companies who distribute monthly statements, send mailers, or handle other large bursting orders.

What optional machines may you need?

A check signer is a burster accessory that will automatically sign checks as they are being burst. It is a convenient addition for companies and organizations that use bursters to separate large volumes of checks.

A stand is a practical place to set a larger burster that is too big to set on a tabletop. It conserves space and will securely hold the burster.

In-feed tables and exit trays hold the forms as they feed into then exit the form burster. Tables and exit trays are a must-have for bursting large stacks of paper.

A belt conveyor stacker automatically stacks a large amount of forms as they exit the burster.

A decollator will separate several forms into different stacks. It’s a handy item to have when several different forms are burst at once and need to be automatically dispersed into separate piles.
