How To Choose The Best Spiral Binding Supplies

Spiral Binding Supplies Coil Binding Supplies Spiral binding machines are fast becoming one of the most popular in-house binding formats today! Spirals, also known as coils, come in a variety of colors and sizes. Spiral binding supplies are known for their durability and longevity. Spiral bound documents also have the ability to have pages wrap around for easy reading. Finding the right spiral binding machine can be difficult. Here are a few questions you can ask yourself that may help you find the right machine.

How many pages will you be binding?

The amount of pages you spiral bind will depend entirely on the amount of pages you will be binding. We have included on our coil binding supplies index a scale that will let you know approximately how many sheets of standard copy paper a certain diameter of coil can bind. For example, a one-quarter inch coil can bind 20 sheets of standard paper. Be aware that card stock will take up more space than standard 20# copy paper.

What color do you want?

The color of coil you use can completely change the look of the document. Most people try to match the color of their report cover to the color of the coil. The safest choice, if a color cannot be matched, is black. Black spirals will match with almost anything. We have a wide assortment of spiral coils available. PMS color matching on spirals can be done if needed. Call 1-800-543-5454 for a custom color quote.

Which hole pitch do you need?

Coil supplies are available in two different formats, known as the pitch. These are 4:1 and 5:1 pitch. The 4:1 pitch is four holes per inch and 5:1 is five holds per inch. You will need to know the pitch of your machine before buying supplies. The pitch is usually stated somewhere on the machine, usually on a label. Be aware that these different hole formats are not interchangeable.

Are there other supplies I need?

Many people like to add a report or binding cover to their bound document. We have a wide selection of linen, composition, poly and clear covers. These add a degree of professionalism to a bound document and are ideal for reports. You can see our entire selection here.
